Greetings, 4th Graders & welcome to your first day of distant learning!

Check-in for the day here:

*You can also check-in by going to your google classroom or clicking this link.

This morning, before you begin, you will need to check over the detailed learning page for each subject: Math, Reading, Spelling, & Social Studies to see what needs to be kept at home when you finish and what needs to be sent back. I suggest that you just keep putting the papers that need to come back to me (Mrs.Brake) in your packet and the rest in a safe spot that you will not lose them. Whatever system you use, make sure it works well for you. I will be on my computer all day, so please contact me if you need help...that is what I'm here for.

Remember throughout these next weeks that all the work you send back to me will be graded and put into the grade book, just as if you were in school. That is why I am asking you to SLOW DOWN, take your time, and do the very best you can on the work in front of you. The purpose of this is for you to learn and expand your brain just as if you were in school. Please remember I am here for you every step of the way and I BELIEVE IN YOU!

On that note, let's get started...

MATH:

Today for math you are going to be working 14-4: Area of Parallelograms. Throughout math, you will need to do Xtramath (let me know if there is not a way you can do this at home and we can get something figured out), watch the 2 math videos, follow along on one of the videos with me going over the reteaching worksheet, and finish off with the practice & daily spiral review sheet.

  • The only things that come back to me are the 14-4 daily spiral review and practice, which should be back to back on one sheet of paper. Please remember to show all of your work.

READING:

For reading today we are going to do a little vocabulary, learn a couple of new Greek/Latin roots, prefixes, or suffixes, and do a daily spiral review (just do Mondays today). For the vocabulary words, you are going to have to watch my video to find out the definitions, if not you will have to use a dictionary in your home or go online. Hint Hint...watch the video for Greek/Latin roots and get some free answers! :)

  • The only things that need to come back to me for reading are the Greek & Latin root word sheet, Monday & Tuesday's spiral review, & your vocabulary sheet.

SPELLING:

Today for spelling, you will need to look over all your spelling words and then sort them into groups. I only need the practice sheet back, I do not want the list of spelling words back again. Please keep that as you will use it more this week to help you study and with the second spelling sheet.

  • What needs to come back: Spelling practice 1

SOCIAL STUDIES:

For Social Studies you need to read through our last region booklet, the Northeast region. Go ahead and color in the pictures and fill out what it asks you to throughout the book. If it is nice out maybe you could read it outside to get some fresh air!

  • Nothing needs to come back to me right now for Social Studies, however, DO NOT LOSE YOUR BOOKLET you are going to need it on Wednesday.

Once you have completed all your tasks for the day, take a nice break and listen to a chapter from Red if you wish, remember, you can find this above on the "read aloud" tab. Also, don't forget to do your P.E. and/or Music assignments for the week.

YAY! You are done for the day. I knew you could do it! I am so proud of all your hard work and accomplishments...I will meet you back here tomorrow to discuss what to do then. Until then, go play and get some fresh air.

Miss you all,

Mrs. Brake

To all my fourth grade parents this post was designed just for you. I am sure your home schedules look a little different these days. I can't imagine the adjustments that have been made, for this, I want to thank you for being so patient through this time.

A couple of things you may want to know for future reference:

Contact Information

Phone:(507) 425-2581

(This is the school's number, my phone is being weird and will say busy if you call my direct number, however, if you call the school Lori will forward you to me.)

Remind:

It would be a good idea to join our classroom remind, this way you can text me through remind if you need something. I will be available through Remind all day (past 3:00). You can join this by texting @62bfk4 to the number 81010. If you get the app you can text me directly.

Google Hangouts:

This platform is great for students or parents with google accounts to contact me virtually face to face for questions, explanations, or concerns. Watch the google hangout blog post for more information on this.

Helpful Resources

There are many helpful resources that can be found on my school website (https://www.fps.mntm.org/Domain/292) from games to our curriculum books you can find it in the "student website" tab. You can also get to this blog from my school website.

How do you Google? What should I expect in my child's packet for 4th grade? - Watch the video!

**1 thing I forgot to add in my video...you can subscribe to this blog and it will email you notifications every time I post you can then comment on the posts as well!

Parents, I truly appreciate all of your time and energy that is being poured into your child's education at this time. It truly takes your help to make this all successful and you are doing a great job. My biggest tips for you at this point are to keep a schedule and keep your children active. This packet is not meant to take hours upon hours of your time as a family. Again, as I said before if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions for me, please let me know; I am open to any and all ideas to make this easier on you and your child. I am here for your student and you as well through all of this. Don't forget to take some time for yourself as well. Take a deep breath it will all be OKAY!
